Gates, N.Y. (WHAM) – The LPGA is making a long-term commitment to Rochester.

The Symetra Tour will be returning to Gates for the next three years, according to tournament organizers.

In an announcement made Wednesday afternoon, a deal will keep the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic at the Brook-Lea Country Club through 2020.

The professional women’s golf tournament is part of the LPGA Symetra Tour.

“It really is comforting to know that Rochester loves having us,” said Jordan Britt, a pro golfer on the LPGA Tour. “I think that you can really tell when you’re at Brook-Lea. Everyone is greeting you with a smile on your face. It definitely is just a community event. Everyone just comes together and pulls off a fantastic week for the players.”

The tournament honors the memory of Spencerport native and professional golfer Danielle Downey, who was killed in a car crash back in 2014.
