More Than Golf

More than a golf tournament, the events and programs associated with the tournament reflect Danielle’s legacy as a motivator to not only keep professional golf prevalent in the Rochester community, and to continue to inspire the future stars of the LPGA and the future stars of Rochester.

Though the golf tournament will not take place in 2023, we are committed to the continuance of three of the most important events that we held during tournament week.

Crosby Brownlie presents the Annual Future of Women’s Golf Pro-Am. This is an event that best represents the legacy of Danielle Downey, Rochester’s most successful female golfer. Danielle had a vision to keep professional golf prevalent here and to help younger players and the Rochester community through using golf as an outlet to connect people within the community.

The Future of Women’s Golf Pro-Am pairs local female high school golfers with Epson Tour professionals, affording these high school players a unique experience to socialize, learn and celebrate golf with a mentor. This event has yielded long lasting friendships between local high school girls and LPGA Professionals over the years.

Following the golf, Sage Rutty presents the Danielle Downey Scholarship Dinner, where a local high school female senior golfer who has excelled in helping in the community will win a $2500 scholarship to continue her education, and an additional $2500 will be donated to the charity of her choice.

The Visions Federal Credit Union Junior Clinic allows young golfers in the Rochester area to work with a Symetra Tour player improving their skills. This special event aims to increase the interest of golf among the next generation in the Rochester community to grow the game and helps teach the life lessons of the game like integrity, sportsmanship and patience. The young people who attend the Junior Clinic learn how to improve their own games as they work through a variety of demonstrations, drills and competitions. The Event is organized and benefits the First Tee of Western NY, and features both local high school players and LPGA Epson Tour Professionals as instructors and mentors for these young people.

The Deloitte Women’s Forum is an opportunity for attendees to hear from a panel of three female leaders who have achieved a great deal of personal or professional success. Speakers share their stories about how their resilience and strength allowed them to chase a dream. This will be the seventh annual Women’s Forum, which is intended to send empowering and inspiring messages to their female audience. The forum has been a great opportunity for interaction between women who are making a strong impact in the world and those who will in the future. Each audience has intentionally included local Executives and leaders and Young Professionals.

The Danielle Downey Golf Experienc was inspired by and acts as a tribute to the late Danielle Downey. We lost Danielle far too early, but her message lives on through this experience.

ABOUT DANIELLE DOWNEY

The Pluta Cancer Center Foundation – Our Designated Beneficiary

The Foundation’s mission is to continue to support the Pluta Cancer Center, its patients and its team by providing the funds necessary to relieve the financial burdens that many cancer patients and their families face, expand and enhance our complimentary integrative oncology services as well as invest in the professional development of our caregivers who are at the front lines of patient care.

The emotional and financial costs of cancer can put an increased burden on patients and their families. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and support from our community, the Pluta Cancer Center Foundation is able to help with some of the many stresses associated with a cancer diagnosis.

This can include providing gas and grocery cards, assisting with the purchase of necessary medical equipment, helping to fund dental work or travel costs associated with clinical trials, and so much more. This also means supporting initiatives such as the poncho project and comfort bags, as well as funding programs offered at Pluta such as yoga and Tai Chi, which are free of charge to patients.
